  • The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS), School of Medicine, at the University of Virginia (UVA) and UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center (UVACC) invites talented researchers to join an exemplary team of investigators to advance precision health strategies directed to cancer prevention and control and reducing cancer disparities. This is part of a major Grand Challenges research investment of over $50M in Precision Medicine/Precision Health. Applicants are sought at the rank of Assistant Professor , Associate Professor or Full Professor with a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, MD, ScD) to apply for tenure-track/eligible faculty positions supported under a newly announced Precision Health initiative.

    The University of Virginia's 2030 plan recognizes Precision Health as a major societal challenge and an opportunity for multidisciplinary work that draws on our existing strengths. In partnership, the Provost and the deans of applicable schools are making multiple coordinated faculty recruitments to strengthen the research community focusing on Precision Health for Populations across the University. Faculty recruits will receive support from the Provost and from their school and will participate in the Precision Health for Populations Initiative.

    Cancer Epidemiologist

    We are seeking researchers trained in cancer epidemiology to conduct innovative research to advance the science of cancer epidemiology and to work collaboratively to apply these discoveries as personalized prevention/risk reduction strategies and approaches. The driving goals of this UVA sponsored Precision Health Initiative are to broaden our ability to effectively prevent and intercept cancer processes or events in diverse populations. As such, we envision the scope of this work to be multi-level, involving biological, environmental, individual and upper stream societal factors. Faculty hired under this initiative will have a primary appointment in PHS and membership in the UVACC's Cancer Prevention and Population Health research program. The successful faculty candidate must have a proven track record of sustained peer-reviewed funded research in cancer etiology, risk reduction, screening, early detection, and/or survival. Candidates must have a scholarly record of collaboration in multidisciplinary investigator teams informed by community needs and with key focal sites within communities such as healthcare practices, community centers, organizations, or neighborhoods. High priority will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following UVACC priority cancers including lung, breast, GI, prostate, cervical or melanoma.

    Cancer Community Interventionist

    We are seeking researchers trained in implementation sciences and community-based research to join this UVA sponsored Precision Health Initiative to envision, plan and conduct innovative multilevel interventions that advance cancer risk reduction, early detection and outcomes in collaboration with the Cancer Center's Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) program and community stakeholders. The driving goals of this hiring initiative are to broaden our ability to effectively prevent, diagnose, and /or delay cancer processes or events in diverse populations by leveraging and adapting evidence-based interventions. Faculty hired under this initiative will have a primary appointment in PHS and membership in the UVACC's Cancer Prevention and Population Health research program. The successful candidate must have a proven track record of sustained peer-reviewed funded intervention research focused on cancer prevention, detection and/or access to care; and inequities linked to race, ethnicity, poverty, sex, gender and/or geography. Candidates must have a scholarly record of collaboration in multidisciplinary investigator teams informed by community needs and with key focal sites within communities such as healthcare practices, community centers, organizations, or neighborhoods.

    Cancer Digital Health/ Behavioral-health Interventionist:

    We are seeking researchers trained in the application of digital health technologies in cancer prevention and control. Applications are encouraged from those who are inspired to envision, plan and conduct innovative cancer-focused research using adaptive digital platforms or devices such as those involving cellphones, text messaging, mobile apps, and web-based modules. The driving goals of this UVA sponsored Precision Health Initiative are to broaden our ability to effectively prevent, diagnose, and /or delay cancer processes or events in diverse populations. Digital health technology is a critical strategy to expand the reach of cancer prevention and control interventions and allow personalization by tailoring the content and delivery of intervention to the individual's needs or circumstances across diverse settings. The successful faculty candidate must have a proven track record of sustained peer-reviewed funded research relevant to digital interventions involving cancer screening, early detection, and/or the delivery of personalized therapies to control cancer. Candidates must have a scholarly record of collaboration in multidisciplinary investigator teams informed by community needs and with key focal sites within communities such as healthcare practices, community centers, organizations, or neighborhoods.
