The Department of Linguistics (~~~) at the University of Pennsylvania (~~~/) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Syntax at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate must have the Ph.D. completed by the time of appointment, which is July 1, 2024. Applicants must present a proven record of excellence in research and teaching. We are especially interested in applicants whose research and teaching interests include A-bar syntax, and may also include expertise in the syntax/morphology or syntax/semantics interface. The successful candidate will co-direct the Penn Syntax Lab (~~~/) along with Julie Anne Legate.

The Department of Linguistics is a collaborative and interactive department, comprised of leaders in integrative work that combines sophisticated theoretical perspectives with a wide range of empirical approaches. We form an integral part of a vibrant interdisciplinary community of experts from around the world who study language across several departments, and are active participants in the university's MindCORE (~~~) and ILST (~~~/) initiatives. The department offers an undergraduate major that provides students an understanding of the modern discipline of Linguistics. Our graduate students often go on to become assistant professors, postdocs, or to work in industry.
The Department of Linguistics is housed within the School of Arts & Sciences (~~~/) , which is comprised of 28 academic departments, the College of Arts and Sciences (~~~/) , the Graduate Division (~~~/) , and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies (~~~/) . Interdisciplinary research and collaboration are supported by the breadth and depth of academic pursuits at Penn (~~~) as well as the proximity of resources on our contiguous green urban campus (~~~) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
