â€¢Works in conjunction with unit managers and education staff for the planning and implementation of orientation for new hires.
â€¢Assists education staff in assigning unit preceptors.
â€¢May assist in interview process for new staff.
â€¢Completes probationary performance evaluations for new hires.
â€¢Participates in annual evaluations with unit managers.
â€¢Provides one-on-one education and appropriate coaching and feedback as indicated by skill assessments of for all staff (individual and aggregate) in the perioperative areas.
â€¢Works collaboratively with director, clinical managers, team coordinators, physicians and anesthesiologists to set educational goals for the perioperative area.
â€¢Develops an annual education plan for each clinical area.
â€¢Collaborates with nursing management to identify clinical activities which facilitate professional growth of nursing staff.
â€¢Services as a resource person for identified perioperative projects.
â€¢Participates in and leads work teams related to process improvement or problem resolution.
â€¢Acts as an advocate for the staff training component of new strategic initiatives pertinent to clinical area.
â€¢Assists with coordination of students from designated colleges/universities.
â€¢Actively assists management team with ensuring staff compliance with regulatory requirements. This may include, but is not limited to, training and recertification for CPR, ACLS, annual education on fire safety/diversity/code management/HIPPAA and coordination of TB testing.
â€¢Serves as a resource in the clinical area.
â€¢Performs patient care in area of clinical expertise in order to demonstrate clinical competence and be available to teach others.
â€¢Maintains professional growth and development through an ongoing process of formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
â€¢Assists with providing education of health care consumer and other health care team members.
â€¢Applies knowledge/research findings as reported in the professional literature to clinical practice.
â€¢Other duties as assigned.
â€¢Certificate of completion of Surgical Technologist program, Associate's Degree preferred.
â€¢Knowledge of adult learning, motivational and change theories, group process skills, and teaching strategies.
â€¢Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
â€¢Familiarity with automated clinical systems, and Microsoft applications.
â€¢American Heart Association - Basic Life Support (BLS) (Health Care Provider.)
â€¢Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the Associate of Surgical Technologists required.
Complexity of Work:
â€¢Requires analytical thinking, time management, multitasking and strong communications skills.
â€¢Demonstrated computer skills (EPIC, Microsoft).
â€¢Must have three to five years current perioperative experience; preferable in large health care setting.
â€¢Demonstrated specialty experience.
â€¢Teaching experience preferred.
â€¢Ability to perform duties while standing, sitting, stooping and reaching for prolonged periods of time; ability to lift instrumentation and linen packs weighing up to 25 pounds on a continual basis; and ability to push, pull and navigate supply carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
â€¢Ability to tolerate exposure to environments of bacterial and viral contamination and possible exposure to sterilization gases.
