SECTION CHIEF OF BREAST SURGERY / HOUSTON METHODIST HOSPITAL

The Department of Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH, at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas) seeks candidates (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) for Section Chief of Breast Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology and Gastrointestinal Surgery. Candidates will be clinically based at HMH; lead a rapidly expanding, Houston Methodist Health System-wide, academic breast surgery practice; and join a vibrant and progressive Department of Surgery and the Neal Cancer Center (NCC) - a growing, top 30 U.S. News Cancer Center.

Candidates should ideally have completed formal post-residency fellowship training in breast surgery and/or complex general surgical oncology and be certified by the American Board of Surgery. Selected candidates with previous, very extensive breast surgery experience (but without formal post-residency fellowship training) will be considered. Robust clinical expertise in the management of benign and malignant breast diseases is expected; breast imaging experience will be an asset. This position offers potential opportunities for shared, limited, surgical oncology/breast surgery call coverage ( if desired ). The candidate will be part of a robust team of dedicated radiologists, pathologists, reconstructive surgeons, and medical and radiation oncologists and will be expected to actively participate in disease site-focused multidisciplinary tumor boards. They will be expected to play an active role in Division/NCC-wide program development, as well as relevant quality and process improvement initiatives. Trainee supervision and instruction are a major component of the position. Education is primarily focused on general surgery residents and medical students. The candidate will be expected to drive curriculum development around breast surgery and actively participate in formal didactic teaching and conferences. A strong previous track record of academic productivity (peer-reviewed publications, intramurally/extramurally funded research, etc.), as well as administrative experience and a track record of surgical leadership, is strongly preferred. Research endeavors will be strongly encouraged and supported with opportunities for protected time via intramural clinician scientist, clinical trialist, and clinical educator awards; other intramural research grants; and departmental support. Recruited faculty will have opportunities for academic appointments at the Houston Methodist Academic Institute, the Houston Methodist Research Institute, and the Weill Cornell Medical College.
