    Job Summary

    As the school places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom, lab and clinical instruction, teaching assistants

    are responsible for assisting instructors in ensuring the fulfillment of educational goals and objectives of the

    particular program in which they teach. These responsibilities require leadership and direction in both academics

    and workforce areas. Specific duties will include assisting to ensure competent instruction and educational

    planning along with student guidance and evaluation. This position receives general guidance and direction from

    the course instructor and Program Director/Program Coordinator (depending on program), and direct supervision

    from the Dean/Director of Education.

    Essential Functions

    I. Subject Matter Expert

    a. Connects subject matter with related fields in the classroom, lab and clinical using relevant

    examples.

    b. Assists in the application of meaningful learning objectives at the direction of the course

    instructor.

    c. Provide input to the course instructor in evaluation of methods measuring student

    progress towards course objectives fairly.

    d. Suggests changes to curriculum, syllabi, textbooks, and other classroom materials, supplies,

    and equipment.

    II. Teaching

    a. Assist course faculty to teach assigned courses, using approved materials, syllabi, and

    textbooks.

    b. Follows syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned courses in accordance with

    program and school policy.

    c. Implements the planned and organized instruction at the direction of the course instructor

    to maximize student learning.

    d. Employs appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to

    students

    e. Modifies, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.

    f. Evaluates student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly,

    within school guidelines to promote maximum learning.

    g. Employs available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, when

    appropriate.

    III. Communication

    a. Encourages the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through

    appropriate assignments.

    b. Advises students and assists in following up with students who have had attendance

    and/or academic issues.

    c. Provides referrals to Student Services representative beyond the scope of the school.

    d. Maintains open communication with campus leadership, faculty, staff, students, and all

    others.

    IV. Operational

    a. Maintains accurate records of student progress and submits feedback to course instructor for final

    grades at the completion of each course.

    b. Learns and uses technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience, when appropriate.

    c. Accurately and completely fulfills administrative responsibilities for the classroom such as

    attendance and grading.

    d. Effectively delivers instruction at the direction of the course instructor.

    e. Maintains current licensure and/or certification as required.

    f. Maintains currency of knowledge through faculty and professional development.

    g. Attends scheduled in-services and faculty meetings.

    h. Utilizes all required resources such as the student information system and other resources

    as appropriate.

    V. Professionalism

    a. Demonstrates sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.

    b. Uses the student information system to document all calls and contact with students to

    maintain the official student record.

    c. Provides career etiquette information to students.

    d. Maintains professional appearance, attitude, and demeanor any time while at the school.

    e. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Experience and Education

    • Completion of an approved registered nursing education program;

    • Possess a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse;

    • A baccalaureate degree in nursing or enrollment in a graduate level course in a program for

    registered nurses to obtain a master’s or doctoral degree with a major in nursing;

    • Hold a current, valid licnesrue as a registered nurse in Ohio.

    Position Type and Hours of Work

    Typical class days and hours include Monday through Friday, 8:00am-10pm. Additional days or hours may be

    required and the Instructor must be flexible due to position’s responsibilities.

    Part-time exempt positions will have hours changing each term/module and may not be consistent and/or

    guaranteed. Where applicable, full-time exempt positions may include both classroom and administrative time

    during the hours listed above.
