    To fill the W. L. Lyons Brown Jr Jefferson Scholars Foundation Distinguished Professorship in Diplomacy and Statecraft, the Corcoran Department of History at the University of Virginia invites applicants in the history of "The United States and the World."

    The strongest candidates will have a distinguished record of scholarship on the diplomatic, international, military, imperial, economic, or transnational history of the United States. We seek applicants whose work examines global processes in which the United States is imbricated, for example, global development, forced migration, global health, war and military occupations, the environment, human rights, decolonization, north-south economic relations, or transnational social movements.

    Ph.D. or terminal degree and three years of experience required.

    Review of applications will begin January 15, 2024, and the position will remain open until filled.

    Applicants are invited to describe their undergraduate teaching in the field, and they should discuss their potential contribuions to the History Department's robust Ph.D. program. Ideally, applicants would demonstrate some knowledge of foreign languages and show familiarity with archival sources outside the United States. We would be especially interested in scholars whose work examines U.S. engagement with Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, or Africa. We welcome applications from scholars at the rank of full professor or advanced associate who can be promoted to full professor upon appointment.
