  • Job Summary

    The Department of Population Health Sciences (DPHS), within the Geisinger Research Institute, is actively recruiting for Implementation Science faculty. Geisinger is one of the nation's largest rural healthcare systems located in Central and Northeast Pennsylvania. As a leading healthcare system, we generate scientific evidence, inform policies, and support practices to promote positive operational and health outcomes for our patients and communities. DPHS faculty have mature research programs in diabetes, nephrology, opioid use disorder, environmental health, and obesity prevention, and other chronic diseases. As part of our strategic plan, we want to use our research findings to inform the delivery of care. In collaboration with Geisinger's Quality and Safety department, we have been designated as a participant in the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute's (PCORI) Health System Implementation Initiative (HSII) and was awarded an HSII Capacity Building project. This project applies implementation science theories to assess readiness for change and will develop educational materials as the system prepares to engage in large implementation of evidence-based care. Geisinger will apply for additional funding from PCORI to implement evidence-based interventions under HSII.

    Job Duties

    • Develops, maintains, and supervises a productive and nationally competitive research program; pursues independent funding for research and completes the goals and specific aims of externally funded projects.

    • Directs and supervises the day-to-day scientific work on research projects.

    • Provides oversight of staff and reviews and evaluates their work.

    • Provides technical and intellectual leadership for the research program including identification of the research question, formulation of the hypothesis, conducting the investigation, recording the observations, analyzing the data, drawing conclusions and preparing the completed work for publication.

    • Maintains national/international recognition through publications in high quality peer review journals, participation in peer review of grants and manuscripts, and presentations at other institutions, organizations, national and international meetings.

    • Leads mentoring committee activities for junior faculty, clinicians, postdocs, residents and fellows.

    • Provides a leading role in initiating collaborations with investigators, physicians and outside institutional lab groups; contributes professional and technical expertise in such collaborations.

    • Provides institutional service by participating in Departmental and System committees and meetings.

    Position Details

    Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Health Behavior, Public Health, or a closely related field . The position is open rank; however, priority is given to associate and full professor. Experience in use and analysis of EHR data is desired. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program, either through independent or collaborative projects, and provide service to the health system, their profession, and the community. Appointment at higher ranks must show a record of extramural grant funding as a Principal or Co-Investigator and publication of peer-reviewed collaborative research.
