    GENERAL DUTIES

    The CUNY School of Medicine is the only public medical school in Manhattan and the first public medical school to open in New York City in more than 160 years. Our accelerated 7-year BS/MD curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CUNY School of Medicine is also home to one of the first public Physician Assistant Studies (PA) programs in the nation and today, the MS in Physician Assistant Studies program is ranked #3 in New York State by U.S. News & World Report . Our mission is to provide access to medical education to talented students from social, ethnic, and racial backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in medicine.     CUNY Medicine is a highly collaborative, fast-paced, environment that values expertise and welcomes new thinking and innovative approaches. Reporting to the Director of Communications and College Relations, and working in collaboration with leaders and students around the School, the Multimedia Creator will generate branded videos, motion graphics, and some animations of varying lengths and for a range of outreach efforts. The incumbent will also create a virtual tour to be integrated into our website and curate the CUNY Medicine YouTube channel with associated playlists that tell captivating stories to prospective students, researchers, clinical partners, and the world.

    The Multimedia Creator must be self-started and strong visual storyteller who can lead brainstorming and scripting, schedule and manage video shoots, and ensure professional post-production processes. In consultation with the Director of Communications, the incumbent will work independently and collaboratively with representatives from various departments to see their spaces, understand their stories, set reasonable deadlines, and bring projects to a timely close.

    This position is for 10-20 hours a week, with a maximum of 225 hours for the Fall semester, 225 hours for the Spring semester, and 175 hours for the Summer semester, and 75 for the winter term. On-site work will be necessary to film activities in our dynamic campus.

    • Expertise in staging, lighting, angles, and acoustics.

    • Expertise and comfort helping subjects pose and giving them on-the-spot guidance on how to speak and appear on camera. Experience eliciting meaningful stories from people who are unfamiliar with the genre.

    • Expertise in capturing key moments and ambience during signature events, for the production of individual reels and for use in longer documentary-style films.

    • Expertise in creating video stories of different lengths and tones for a range of distribution methods, from social media to films that would be viewed at a gala.

    • Experience creating a virtual tour, from scripting and casting, to filming, editing, and branding.

    • Experience managing, growing, and monitoring a YouTube channel with a range of playlists.

    • Flexibilityto provide on-the-ground social and multimedia coverage of student activities, spontaneous campus life moments, and guest speakers.

    • Ability to help grow evergreen campus video and photo archive and capacity to maintain meticulous archives with appropriate tags for search purposes.

    • Knowledge of industry standards in multimedia development and web/mobile accessibility standards.

    • Experience with After Effects and other motion design tools is critical.

    • Strong editorial skills needed to ensure accuracy of transcripts, onscreen text, and lower thirds, including confirming the spelling of people's names and titles.

    • Still photography experience is a plus, as is experience with creating a still image from a video moment.

    • Familiarity with graphic production using applications such as Adobe Photoshop, in addition to a working knowledge of vector-based software applications such as Adobe Illustrator is a plus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree in multimedia production required or four years of relevant full-time experience.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    • 2-4 years (depending on academic background) of relevant professional experience in website development, management, and optimization

    • Understanding of best practices in multimedia creation and visual storytelling

    • Knowledge of medical education, clinical care, biomedical research, and community-based medicine and research is a plus

    • Excellent oral and written communication, listening, and interpersonal skills

    • Excellent planning, organizational, and time-management proficiencies

    • Ability to work independently and with a team to brainstorm and develop content.

    COMPENSATION

    Non-teaching Adjunct (Level 2): $47.42 per hour

    (Non-teaching adjuncts may work a maximum of 700 hours per year).
