FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The CUNY School of Law Clinical Program has been nationally recognized as one of the best in legal education and affords each student the opportunity to engage in the practice of law by learning through service to underserved communities. The Law School currently offers twelve live-client clinical programs and two practice clinics. CUNY School of Law faculty members have been recognized as innovative leaders in clinical legal education, through service, publications, and participation at conferences.

The Law School seeks an Instructor responsible for case supervision, case management, co-teaching and curricular development in the Immigrant & Non-Citizen Rights Clinic (INRC). INRC is a two- semester, 16-credit clinic offered in the fall and spring semesters and as a 2-4 credit Advanced Clinic in the Spring.

In the first two years of service, Law School Instructors may opt into participating in faculty meetings, pursuant to the CUNY School of Law Governance Plan. They may also assume other faculty governance responsibilities and serve on committees. Upon reappointment for three or more years of continuous service, they may participate in governance activities without an annual opt in process.

The tenure-track faculty member directing each clinic has the ultimate responsibility for the overall operation of the program, including the classroom component, the administration of the clinic, and supervision of students' casework. In her, his, or their absence, the Law School Instructor will assume this responsibility. The Law School Instructor must be available and interested in teaching in INRC's part-time evening offering and in providing summer case coverage as needed (including case management), participating in clinic faculty meetings during the school year, and performing other duties for the benefit of the overall program.

The instructor performs teaching, research, and guidance duties at the CUNY School of Law in area(s) of expertise as noted below. Teaching responsibilities may include supervision of students in legal practice or other law- related activity. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

J.D., L.L.B., or Ph.D. in a law-related discipline. Also required are demonstrated legal ability; ability to teach successfully; interest in productive scholarship or law-related work; and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Other Qualifications

For appointment as Law School Instructor, the candidate must have demonstrated commitment to povertylaw,public service, or public interestlaw.The candidate should have a minimum of three years related practice experience and clinical teaching and supervision. The candidate must show excellent potential as a teacher in the classroom and in supervising students on cases, and as a leader in the public interest community. The candidate must also show exceptional willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

COMPENSATION

$83,800 to $105,567

Salary is commensurate upon experience.
