    A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, MO is seeking a part-time adjunct faculty member. This position reports to the AHEC Director. The incumbent will assist with teaching an online Medical Spanish course, develop an annual practicum examination, and meet with students weekly.

    Major job duties include

    • Intimate knowledge of Spanish as it relates to the medical/dental and healthcare environment.

    • Knowledge of anatomical/environmental terms used in the patient-provider encounter.

    • Relate to medical/dental students as well as standardized patients in Spanish.

    • Provide an overview of Spanish grammar, an introduction to the medical/dental vocabulary in Spanish, together with a development of cultural awareness in the students.

    • Assist students to practice everyday situations that might be encountered in the typical medical/dental encounter where an accurate understanding of the patient's complaint is required.

    • Manage classroom and text/online Spanish for the Health Professions teaching/learning resources as appropriate.

    Requirements include

    • A bachelor's degree in a language education related field

    • Knowledge of Spanish language and vocabulary necessary for effective patient/physician interactions

    • Knowledge of academic course implementation strategies and processes

    • Computer skills to include Web Conferencing, such as Zoom, and Learning Management, such as Canvas

    • Ability to engage students online and in the classroom

    • Works well with direct supervision

    • Knows when to ask for advice
