Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in health education, health promotion or related fields. Three (3) years of full-time experience working in community health education. Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Docs. Certification from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.

Preferred Qualifications:

Four (4) or more years of full-time experience working in community health education. Experience in community cancer prevention/care education. Experience working with survey software applications such as Qualtrics, RedCap or other. Bilingual English/Spanish.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Stony Brook Cancer Center Community Outreach and Engagement office is looking for Educational Specialists who will be able to interpret work plans and convert a community's needs into comprehensive evidenced based educational programs. The ideal candidate will have the ability to provide instruction to the community using strong interpersonal, writing, and problem-solving skills.

Duties:

• Provide Cancer related health and wellness education to the community, including diverse audiences.

• Assist in navigation of patients or community members to relevant healthcare services.

• Evaluate, design, present, recommend and disseminate culturally appropriate health education information and materials.

• Stay abreast of all current standards in cancer control and care.

• Perform intakes on new and re-enrolling adults in various educational programs.

• Maintain logs of teaching and educational activities.

• Consult with physicians and staff regarding related health education services.

• Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,087 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

Evening and weekend work may be required at times.
