The University Committees of the University of Washington, also known as University Faculty Councils, are standing committees appointed by the Senate Executive Committee and confirmed by the Faculty Senate. These Councils meet regularly during each academic year to provide oversight on the areas within their charges, and to advise the Provost and the Senate Executive Committee on proposals, challenges, changing conditions, needs and opportunities that arise throughout the University. Where warranted, Faculty Councils may also propose legislative changes to the University Faculty Code. The Faculty Councils have representatives from the breadth and depth of the University faculty, administration, students - both graduate and undergraduate - and staff at the table.

Faculty Councils serve as deliberative and advisory bodies for all matters of University policy, and are primary forums for faculty-administrative interaction in determining that policy.

The twelve Faculty Councils are: Academic Standards; Benefits and Retirement; Gender, Equity, and Justice; Faculty Affairs; Information Technology & Cybersecurity; Race, Equity, and Justice; Research; Student Affairs; Teaching and Learning; Tri-Campus Policy; Campus Planning and Stewardship; and University Libraries.

Reporting to the Secretary of the Faculty Senate, the Faculty Council Analyst provides operational support for the Office of University Committees. This position assists with and provides professional support to ensure the efficient functioning and productive outcomes of the University Faculty Councils, serving as a liaison throughout the University, as well as with outside contacts.

The position is one of four professional staff who together provide for the operations and continuity of the Office of University Committees and Faculty Senate. This position provides the opportunity to work in a highly visible, collaborative, diverse and challenging environment with complex and changing schedules and priorities and deadlines.

Additionally, the individual will serve as an essential member of the Office of University Committees/Faculty Senate group, contributing to Office policies and procedures, operational decision making, and as a peer resource for other administrative staff; advise faculty and administration of rules and regulations of the University of Washington, the Faculty Code; and ensure compliance with those rules.

Competitive candidates will be creative, flexible thinkers, able to work independently and with a team, attentive to detail, accurate, able to handle confidential matters with discretion, and be able to exercise good judgment. Inherent to success in this position is the ability to manage complex schedules and priorities, to prioritize (and re-prioritize) work and to meet multiple deadlines.
