    The Laney Graduate School:

    The Laney Graduate School (LGS) enrolls approximately 2,000 students in close to 50 doctoral and master's degree programs with faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences and the professional schools of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Theology, Business,and Law. LGSrecruitsstudents from across the US and internationally and has research and program collaborations with Georgia Institute of Technology, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other institutions.

    English Language Support Program

    TheEnglish Language Support Programprovideswritten and oral communication support to enrolledLaney Graduate Schoolstudents who use English as anadditionallanguage.The students supported by the ELSP aremultilingualmaster's and doctoral students acrossLGSprogramsin thehumanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.

    Theposition, English Language Specialist,is a 12-monthfacultyposition with a teaching load of up to10credit-hoursinFall, up to8in the Spring, and up to6in theSummer I semesteras well asotherteaching andprogramduties, as outlined below.

    Major responsibilities include

    1. Teaching for-credit writing and oral communication coursesforgraduate studentswho useEnglish as an Additional Language (EAL), ensuringtimelygrading andmaintaininghigh instructional quality. ELSP courses include required, recommended, and elective courseworkand are primarily offered in person.

    2. Developing and delivering content-based and skills-based workshops, with each Specialist offering a minimum of 2 per year, adjustedas neededper semester teaching load.

    3. Offering personalized oral and written communication support to graduate students,alsosubject toavailability based onteaching load.

    4. Collaborating with ELSP peers to enhance program quality through co-teaching, resource sharing, and other initiatives fostering collegiality.

    5. Participating in peer-to-peer classroom observations for professional development.

    6. Contributing to language assessment of incoming students, following ELSP procedures.

    7. Attending all scheduled faculty meetings (2-3 per semester).

    8. Undertaking assigned projects from the director, such ascurricular revisions,updating assessment procedures,or coordinatingthe support ofEmoryinternational postdoctoral fellowswho enroll in ELSP.

    9. Staying updated on Applied Linguistics and TESOL research and best practices.

    10. Completingadditionalduties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Master'sor PhDin Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field.

    • 3+years' experienceteaching English as an Additional Language to diverse student populations in an academic setting.

    • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of English users ranging from Intermediate to Advanced High (ACTFL scale).

    • Strong communicationand interpersonal skills.

    • We will request three letters of recommendation, teaching statement, and other materials for finalist candidates who advance through our multi-stage interview process.
