    Description

    Data Scientist is responsible for mining and analyzing data from various internal and external data sources to drive optimization and improvement of operations, clinical outcomes, and business strategies. This position will be responsible for building advanced, multi-modal deep learning and foundation models in medical imaging.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Works with stakeholders throughout the organization to drive business solutions and are adept at using large data sets and models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action using predictive algorithms.

    • They assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.

    • Data Scientist is an expert in at least 1 programming language (e.g. R, SAS, Python), has proficiency in statistical theory and underlying mathematical distributions, and expertise in querying relational databases with SQL.

    • They have experience with of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and can demonstrate real-world application of these techniques.

    Additional Job Description

    • Design and implement generalist pre-trained models for medical imaging using strategies like transfer learning and self-supervised modeling, with architectures such as CNNs and Transformers.

    • Develop large language and vision models to explore representation learning and multimodal understanding, focusing on joint representations from imaging data and clinical reports.

    • Prepare and preprocess medical images using Python libraries, handling data augmentation and normalization to enhance model performance, and maintain clear documentation.

    • Collaborate with domain experts to ensure accurate labeled datasets, participate in discussions to understand clinical requirements, and adapt models accordingly.

    • Work closely with radiologists, data scientists, and software engineers to align research objectives with real-world medical imaging needs.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field and 3 years of relevant experience.

    Desired Qualifications

    • PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field with a focus on Health.

    • Experience in applying deep learning techniques to medical imaging modalities (Chest X-rays, CT, MRI).

    • Proficiency in Python and relevant libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, pandas).

    • Strong understanding of image preprocessing techniques and data augmentation.

    • Experience with pre-training techniques (contrastive models, CNNs, and transformer architectures).

    • Experience working on collaborative projects with industry partners and healthcare institutions.

    • Published research or contributions to the field of medical image analysis.

    NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
