Summary:

The Diabetes Wellness Program Dietitian provides individualized diabetes nutrition education to individuals and groups within his/her scope of practice.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates, implements, evaluates and monitors the nutrition education for The Diabetes Wellness Program. Duties include assessment of patient nutritional status and requirements, monitoring of nutritionial status, counseling of patient and/or family, collaborating with patient and program personnel as appropriate. Interacts with at risk populations identified in the community which may be pre-diabetic or affected by diabetes.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of accredited college/university

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

• Clinical nutrition experience. Diabetes education/counseling experience preferred. If not CDE, must have 15 hours or more of continuing education in nutrition/diabetes management within the past year or documentation ofwillingness to obtain.

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

• Registration as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, North Carolina Dietitian/Nutrition Licensure.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

• Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills are mandatory. Must be self directed, goal oriented and demonstrate skills in autonomy and independent decision making. Must possess ability to work with individuals and groups of various ability levels. BLS required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• On and offsite education with community public speaking and education events

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

• Walking and standing throughout the day. Some lifting required. Must be licensed to operate motor vehicle to drive to community sites to suport education goals. Hours can vary and include days/evenings and occasional weekend hours.
