  • Overview

    Behavioral Emergency Response instructors train system staff on the components and skills of de-escalation, crisis management, personal protection, and workplace violence prevention and physical intervention included in the Initial and Renewal Behavioral Emergency Response Education classes. Also provides training to system staff on components and skills od de-escalation and personal protection in the De-escalation and Self-defense classes.

    Training is based on learner-centered teaching, adult learning principles, and psychomotor skills. Instructors must demonstrate effective trainer qualities and be proficient in the content and skills of the program.

    Responsibilities Job Description

    • Train Behavioral Emergency Response Classes to ensure staff have the knowledge, skills, and abilities/attitudes (KSA) for their role, and champion the program's KSAs when in all clinical areas that maintain Behavioral Emergency Response

    • Reinforce the organization's commitment to create a workplace that is safe from verbal and physical harm, as well as the core values of respect for people and continuous improvement.

    • Demonstrate ability to teach psychomotor skills, coaching learners to a level of competence that will promote their safety and the safety of those around them.

    • Demonstrate ability to adjust teaching methodology to align with the attendee's role and responsibilities, organizational policies and procedures, environments in which they work, and defined rules of engagement to maximize attendee's ability to connect their role with class learnings.

    • Support sustainment and reinforcement activities, such as, Just-In-Time training, Mock Codes, and other projects in all appropriate areas.

    • Ensure 360 communication with leadership on attendee's assessed strengths and opportunities related to their ability to participate in expected KSAs.

    • Document successful course completion and competency for each class attendee.

    • Teach the minimum number of classes to maintain instructor competence.

    • May include training new instructors on the content, instructional design principles, correct use of the courseware, and effective trainer qualities.

    • Teach classes across the Fairview Health System

    • Additional program administration duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required

    Experience

    • 1 year previous experience in a care giver, therapy or security role.

    • Current Fairview employee with minimum of 1 year of employment

    Preferred

    Education

    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field

    Experience

    • 3-5 years' experience working with Behavioral patient population

    License/Certification/Registration

    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
