With limited supervision, is responsible for the cataloguing and maintaining an extensive archival collection of surgical and autopsy materials, including microscopic slides, paraffin blocks, permanent save wet tissue, posterity, microfilm. Ensures a clean, orderly laboratory and archival area. Responsible for delivering materials to specified location as requested.

Pay Grade: NB
High School graduate. Coursework in medical terminology and level coursework in computers and/or database management or equivalent, helpful
0-1 year experience in archiving or filing.
SKILLS: Ability to type at 20-30 words per minute with 97% accuracy. Excellent organizational skills, outstanding interpersonal skills and attention to detail are required. Manual dexterity in both eye and hand coordination to handle and read small specimens, slides, blocks, containers, and fragile specimens to limit damage. Creating spreadsheets, producing document and reports,excellent time management skills, accuracy and attention to detail, Liaising with other managers and staff, Quality assurance tracking.
Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, see and hear. Must stand for prolonged periods and will be required to walk throughout scheduled shift(s). Will sit for extended periods as well. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, touch, feel, and type. May reach with hands and arms above should height; stoop, kneel, or bending at the waist. Work includes traversing ladders and working in a storage/warehouse facility. Work is on a very small team or a solitary environment.

Exposure to toxins and infectious agents exist, but potential for personal injury or harm is minimized if established safety and health precautions are followed. When working in laboratory areas there may be discomforts due to odors, noise, temperature fluctuations, and working around lab equipment. Staff must follow appropriate safety precautions including gloves and protective clothing.
Will transport specimen and document boxes, equipment and supplies usually less than 40 pounds from one area to another. May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with proper training, or precautions/lifting aides. Archivist push and pull file drawers, carts and portable ladders on a regular basis 100 pounds of horizontal force. Lifting between 10-20 pounds / one box of glass slides is required. would be very rare. Reaching above shoulder height and climbing/standing on portable ladders.
In some areas work space is confined; therefore mobility may be difficult.
Staff will be required to complete annual competency review, and must insure compliance with Hospital Policy, Laboratory Policy & Procedure, Health, Safety & Environment regulations, and all applicable privacy & confidentiality laws/practices.
Must be detail oriented, organized, and accurate. Able to operate hand held patient information devices or computer workstations in accordance with department policy.
