  • Responsibilities

    General Purpose:

    The David T. Kearns Center works to increase the educational outcomes of low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresented minority students across the educational pipeline. The academic advisers in the College Programs work with students from their first year through graduation. This position will focus on advising first- generation college students who are from low-income families, and also work with students in the McNair and Research Experience for Undergraduates programs.

    Resposibilities:

    • The David T. Kearns Center works to increase the educational outcomes of low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresented minority students across the educational pipeline. The academic advisers in the College Programs work with students from their first year through graduation. This position will focus on advising first-generation college students who are from low-income families, and also work with students in the McNair and Research

    • Experience for Undergraduates programs.

    • Teach seminar/cohort classes for Kearns students as needed. Design and implement workshops, student, alumni and staff events, and other programs in conjunction with stated expectations of funded projects.

    • Serve on Center and College committees as needed.

    • Maintain notes and student records.

    • Assist with recruitment and interviewing of new students into the program. Host open houses and present to student groups

    • Assist with completion of performance reports required by funding agencies. Assist in research for and writing grant proposals to federal, state, corporate and foundation sources.

    • 2-5x per year Air or automotive travel with students and other staff (sometimes only with students) to research conferences and graduate school fairs/visits. Attend professional development training workshops as appropriate.

    Requirements:

    Required:

    • Master's degree

    • At least two years of experience working with students in the target population, a desire to work with college students, an understanding of the experiences of low-income, first-generation college students at R1 institutions. Experience and training in fields that relate to the Center's objectives. A sense of humor and the ability to work individually and in team settings is required. Strongly prefer some teaching experience at the college level. Valid NYS drivers license is preferred.     • Strong desire to help fulfill the project's objective of increasing the numbers of low-income, first-generation college students who excel academically. Sense of humor, patience, and ability to communicate effectively and work on a team are essential.

    Pay Range

    Pay Range: $ 20.38 - $ 28.56 Hourly

    The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
