Thanks for all of the great comments. For many people, an advanced degree is the key to career advancement and can even make a career change possible. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case in every situation, so it's extremely important to do your research and find out what's best for your situation and what suits your needs. Thanks to Nancy for sharing this wonderful information.

I do think the MBA grad without a job to match her degree is all too common. I don't know why it's common, but I know three people that have an MBA and haven't really done much with it. They are at the same job that they were before they pursued the MBA. They would all tell you that they are better off for it. So maybe the measurement of success isn't your pay grade?

I would have to agree with the previous post.  I just recently received my MBA degree and no promotion.  As CK puts it, the"Bozo explosion."  Where are the opportunities for advancement and why promote furthering education if there are no positions for graduates with advance degrees?

I have to agree with the last 3 comments posted. Have been in the business field for almost 20 years and was told to get an MBA in order to advance my career. Fine - went out and invested time and quite a bit of money to procure my MBA in a pretty decent business school. Still have not reaped the benefits like I wanted to, or was lead to believe. My read on this is that there is too much emphasis placed on this degree and yes your hard earned money is sucked up by all business schools offering these programs. It appears to me that graduates from major schools like Harvard and Yale are the beneficiaries of: • Greater chances for promotion• Accelerated leadership opportunities• Higher pay. What about the rest of us?

That is wishful thinking! After graduating with an MBA with a GPA of 3.85 my employer placed me in a LOWER position! I have been told by other co-workers that I have become a threat to management. Ahh ... the "Bozo Explosion" in full effect!

Isn't it that accreditation of these online universities are inferior as compared to regular classroom universities?  What would be the perception of employers for those who graduated from online universities versus classroom universities?
