Boys & Girls Club of Dane County is expanding a new program called College Club in September 2010. We recently received a grant from a local organization that funds education initiatives allowing us to hire 4-6 part-time certified teachers as Tutors. 2-3 Tutors will work with students at our Allied Family Center and 2-3 will work with students at our Taft Street Club. All Tutors will report to the College Club Case Managers. The College Club vision is to inspire, prepare and connect members of the program to resources so they can fulfill a dream of attaining a quality education allowing them to realize their full potential as college graduates. The focus of the program is to provide College Club members with individual case management support by removing barriers getting in the way of an education. Our commitment to CC members is to: Prepare them to read and write at proficient levels Prepare them for high school level math Connect students/families to available resources to remove barriers from them achieving in school Connect members to high school and college to gain a new perspective on education Connect members to caring and responsible adults Connect members to service learning opportunities in the community Inspire members to have a sense of urgency about pursuing a college education Develop life plans that include how to prepare for college Position Summary: BGCDC is seeking 4-6 College Club Tutors with experience in working with elementary and/or middle school children. Tutors will be responsible for assisting students in 1st-8th grade with their homework. Emphasis will be on reading and math for elementary students and math and science for middle school students. Hours will be approximately 4:15-6:15 Monday-Thursday at our Clubs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist students with homework - emphasis on math, reading and science Tutoring will be tailored to students needs One-on-one and group tutoring Partner with Case Manager to monitor students weekly progress Partner with Case Managers to develop incentive plans to keep students motivated and on track with their goals Additional Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Education Certified Teacher in elementary or middle school Proficiency in reading, math and/or science Bilingual skills are a plus but not required Ability to relate well with children ages 7-14 Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills Excellent problem solving and decision making skills Pay $10.00/hour-$13.00/hour depending on experience How to Apply: If you are interested in being considered for this position, please forward your resume and cover letter to Alison Ahlgrim at [click on "Apply Online" button].
