Systems Programmer 2Original Posting Date 28-Oct-2011 STARS Requisition number 14720BR Department ITS Production Services University Generic Title Systems Programmer 2 Posting Position Title Unix Systems Administrator Bargaining Unit None Job Category Managerial & Professional Type of Employment Full Time Duration Type Regular (Min/Max)">Salary Grade(Min/Max) (Min/Max)">25 Work Week Standard - 37.5 hrs (M-F, 8:30-5:00) Work Location Central Campus Worksite Address 25 Science Park, 4th Fl Position General Purpose/Overview of Responsibilities: Provide Unix systems administration and technical guidance as a senior member of a team supporting mission-critical administrative and academic servers in a dynamic 24/7 data center environment. Essential Duties 1. Administer performance, reliability and security for over 500 Linux and AIX servers providing services in support of the university's mission of teaching, research and clinical care. 2. Install, configure and maintain operating systems, applications and tools including RedHat, AIX, Kickstart, NIM, Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, MySQL, OpenLdap, Ruby on Rails, and OpenVZ. 3. Partner with application owners on deployment and strategic planning for their applications. 4. Collaborate with application developers, database administrators, service providers and data center operators on issues and problems. 5. Some off-shift work with rotating on-call coverage. Required Education and Experience 1. Bachelor's Degree and four years of experience supporting production Unix/Linux in a 24/7 environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Education and Experience 1. Deep technical knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems, applications and tools.
Preferred: 2. Experience installing, configuring and tuning Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, and Ruby on Rails. 3. Experience with automated installation, configuration management and monitoring such as Kickstart, Cfengine, Tripwire and Nagios. 4. Experience with server virtualization, HA, load-balancing and clustering technologies. 5. Experience with NIM installing and supporting AIX LPARs. 6. Experience supporting servers running Oracle database applications. Skills & Abilities 1. A commitment to excellence. 2. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a complex and collaborative environment. 3. Demonstrated proficiency writing advanced scripts in Shell or Perl. 4.
