Description: Group 64 - The Advanced Satcom Systems and Operations Group is involved in a synergistic combination of research, proof-of-concept test beds, and system engineering/application efforts focused on the goals of enhancing the capacity, the robustness to interference, and the flexibility of future generations of communications satellites, as well as line-of-sight radio communications systems. Current research is concentrating on the design and performance of advanced waveforms (including higher-order signaling constellations and iterative demodulation/decoding), the construction of flexible, adaptive wideband frequency plans, robust acquisition and tracking techniques, dynamic resource-allocation protocols, and advanced networking strategies. Promising research results are verified in hardware/software proof-of-concept implementations that provide quantitative performance data as well as complexity information. The group's system engineering activities apply new concepts and technologies to specific communications programs in the national interest.
The ideal candidate will work in the architecture, design and development of DSP algorithms software for next-generation satellite communications terminals and/or payloads simulators. Software will be developed primarily using the Sun Solaris operation system. Code will run on commercially available single-board computers, in an embedded environment, and will control a mix of COTS and proprietary VME based digital boards. Development will be performed in a disciplined collaborative environment, employing modern programming practices, including object-oriented design. Programming will heavily employ interprocess communication, to include the use of socket-based packet communication and modern network protocols (eg, TCP/IP).
Education/Experience Requirements: MS in Electrical Engineering. In lieu of a Masters, a B.S. and 3-5 years of directly related experience will be considered. Candidate should have experience with Matlab. Familiarity with inter-process communication using sockets is a plus. Demonstration of strong communication skills, both oral and written, are required. Must be willing to work in a team environment.
