Description
Social Worker The Social Worker is directly responsible for improving the academic and behavioral performance of the school’s Intervention Team through counseling, home visits, and teacher consultation. The Social Worker has a caseload of 30 students or Social Worker reports to the Assistant Principal of School Culture. Key Responsibilities The Social Worker will be responsible for the following: Performing casework services with Intervention students and families to support student’s behavioral and academic success. · Communicating with teachers and administrators that strengthen support systems for Intervention students in the classroom and around school. · Conducting home visits that supports parents and families to meet Mastery’s high expectations and increases student/family involvement. · Determining appropriate strategies to affect changes in behavioral-social interactions of students and their families. · Conducts specialized individual and group counseling services to address specific emotional, social, and behavioral needs of students and improves their outcomes in the classroom. · Proactively identifying factors that impede Intervention students’ adjustment in the classroom, cafeteria, and gym before they become a crisis. · Being a visible resource to Intervention students throughout the day. · Referring intervention students and their families to appropriate community based organizations and agencies with appropriate follow-up. · Managing crisis situations including suicide, mental health, and family problems. · Identifying social support services for parenting students including Department of Public Welfare, WIC and parenting classes. · Providing leadership on Intervention and SAP teams. · Maintaining professional documentation of services and referrals provided to students and families. · Investigating/reporting child abuse to proper agency/joint investigation of staff allegations. · Organizing and conducting specialized programs including parent training classes and student support activities. · Any other duties commensurate with the duties/responsibilities/grade of the post Qualifications - LCSW with two years urban education experience is desired. Minimum MSW. - Ability to work well in a team and enhance cooperative working relationships - Strong leadership skills - Knowledge of public education and charter schools highly desirable but not required - Excels in problem solving, has a sense of humor and has a desire to provide only the highest quality education for students. - Explicit and relentless focus on outcomes
