Social Science Teacher - Monrovia High School

We welcome you to join this focused, productive, friendly family!Monrovia Unified Social Science Teacher (Secondary) MONROVIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT TITLE: SOCIAL SCIENCE TEACHER (Secondary) QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Single Subject Social Science Credential; EL Certification Required JOB GOAL: To teach one or more classes of social science to pupils in grades 6-12 and assists in other school programs as assigned ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Teach courses in social science: anthropology, history, geography, psychology, sociology, economics, American government, political science or humanities utilizing California State Standards and other appropriate learning activities. - Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements in the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. - Develop a balanced social science program involving factual background material, material on current events, discussion time, and other appropriate activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships and make value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry. - Provide instruction that adapts the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes and cultural backgrounds. - Develops knowledge of the purpose, structure and operation of the American governmental and economic system and the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. - Make material from current magazines, newspapers, television programs, etc. available to pupils; plan and guide discussions of current social, political and economic problems against background of geographic environment and history of area being studied. - Encourage pupils to become aware of the complexity and inter-relations of local, state, national and world problems. - Communicate with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual pupil's progress. - Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the working day. - Identify pupil needs and works with other professional staff members to help pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. - Work with pupils and other classroom teachers in various school related activities. - Administer group tests. - Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school and on the district level. - Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required. - Share in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees. - Plan and coordinate the work of aides and readers. - Perform other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform functions of this job.
