Overview:

The Senior Project Manager manages systems application projects and teams to facilitate the on-time delivery of the project objectives. The Senior Manager follows established project management methodologies throughout each of the projects, may participate in setting or refining the standards for project management, and will mentor other IT PMO staff regarding Project Management practices. He/she directs activities of the project team and communicates with the appropriate team leads, managers, senior management, and the business. The Senior Manager, Project at times may also take on the responsibilities of the Business Analyst for the project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

*
Gathers project requirements from various business users and technical staff members and creates accurate and organized work breakdown structure.
*
Identifies, question and record task dependencies, task efforts and task durations.
*
Follows established project management guidelines and processes (e.g., System Development Life Cycle) to develop, maintain, and track project plans, conduct project meetings and report project status.
*
Works with management of each IT department to ensure each project has the required level of participation and understanding to ensure projects are delivered within the time and budgetary guidelines.
*
Identifies and responds to project risks including mitigating and resolving communication problems and team conflicts
*
Follows up with team members, stakeholders, and clients by ensuring meeting minutes and status updates are communicated to them.
*
Conducts performance evaluations of the project team members.
*
Assures that business case for initiative is within corporate strategic IT Plan and provides assistance to the business to create the Return on Investment (ROI) documentation
*
Provides input/process improvement recommendations to the PMO Project Management processes
*
Participates in product and vendor evaluations
*
Mentors other, less experienced project leaders.
*
Completes other projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position. * Bachelor’s degree required, PMP Certification preferred.
* Minimum 10 years experience in Project Management of Application Systems, preferably in Higher Education.
* Proven team leadership experience.
* Proven understanding of project management concepts and system life cycle methodologies.
* Proven ability to work cross-functionality with all areas of an IT organization and the business.
* Experience with project management tools (e.g., MS Project).
* Strong team facilitation skills.
* Excellent communications skills required – both written and verbal.
* Excellent problem solving, organization and analytical skills.
