Lead Senior Systems Administrator for Harvard Law School's Linux based systems. Works with stakeholders to determine system specifications, functionality and parameters for hardware/software requirements. Responsible for architecting, implementing and operating all Linux based systems including applications such as Apache, OpenLDAP, MYSQL, JAVA and Tomcat. Accountable for over 50 servers and several Linux based enterprise systems such as the Percussion CMS, SUN Identity Management System and internally developed applications.
Work with Manager to identify and implement products and services to improve application uptime, improve efficiencies, addresses security requirements and compliance requirements. Some of these systems include SPLUNK system/application log consolidation system, ZENOSS system monitoring applications and PUPPET build and configuration management system, RedHat Satellite server management.
Work closely with Development group to deploy and support internally developed applications.
Develop continuous roadmap of upgrades and improvements for existing systems and work with Manager to implement to ensure systems are constantly kept maintained and secure. Work with vendors and lead coworker groups to coordinate and implement intergroup projects.
Specific responsibilities include:
* Serve as the system architect for all Linux centric systems and applications.
* Implement, operate and support Linux centric systems and applications.
* Utilize scripting languages such as Perl, Ruby and Python to automate and integrate systems and applications.
* Works with Manager to research, plan and scope out new technologies in keeping with departments longer range strategic plans.
* Recommends new technologies and opportunities for service and efficiency improvements.
* Document and communicate policies and procedures for Linux systems and applications.
* Work withteams/functions/departmentswithin and outside of ITS on technology requirements and develops them into system architecture specifications.
* Applies understanding of systems analysis, design and development techniques.
* Provides on call 7 X 24 mission-critical systems and applications support. Basic Qualifications BA/BS; 5-7 years progressively responsible, related experience providing technical oversight in a multi-OS environment. Additional Qualifications
* Experience using Perl, Ruby, Python or equivalent scripting languages to automate and integrate systems. Must be familiar with HTML and PHP.
* Broad and thorough knowledge of planning, designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting Unix/Linux server operating systems, hardware, peripherals, and management/monitoring tools.
* Demonstrated ability to articulate business needs and to translate these into technology solutions
* Hands on skill with VMware ESX and Netapp storage.
* Experience in solution selection and planning, configuring, coding, debugging, implementing, and supporting database-driven websites and applications.
* Commitment to customer service; ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment; record of keeping abreast of industry trends and changes in technologies; team orientation, flexibility.
* Strong organizational skills, communication skills (written, oral and presentation); a concern for accuracy, details and quality
* Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical clients and business partners.
