Position Overview:
The Section 508 Compliance Specialist demonstrates advanced knowledge of Section 508 regulations and on accessibility-related user interface (UI) best practices for: web sites, web applications, and electronic documents (e.g., PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in order to both accurately identify accessibility issues in developed products, and to identify potential accessibility barriers and violations.
Essential Functions:
Plan and perform web accessibility testing including: semi-automated scans, manual reviews, keyboard only, color sampling, and JAWS screen reader testing.
Knowledge of HTML semantics/tagging, hyperlink integrity, and remediation of Section 508 accessibility issues
Clear understanding of, and ability to demonstrate competency of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.
Knowledge of Section 508 requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the techniques needed to comply with the policy
Firm knowledge of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Section 508 standards, testing and remediation guidelines.
Develop and offer informative and useful high quality outreach/educational presentations.
Provide training on section 508 related materials.
Develop, manage, and keep current marketing and outreach activities and coordinate with internal and external customers.
Write detailed findings documenting identified issues and recommending potential solutions for remediating accessibility violations.

Requirements:
Education /Training Requirements:
Excellent written communication skills for heavy documentation; verbal communication skills for training and development.
B.A. or B.S. in computer science, information technology, human computer interaction, or related field preferred.
At least 3-5 years of 508 compliance/remediation experience.
Experience working effectively with several clients or project teams simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Experience testing electronic documents (PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for Section 508 compliance is considered a plus.
Experience in web standards UI (user interface) development is considered a plus.
