More information about this job: Overview: The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is one of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world. AIR currently has an opportunity for a Researcher to work in the National Center for the Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research (CALDER). CALDER capitalizes on state administrative data files that extend from elementary school through postsecondary to examine the effects of education policies on student outcomes, including labor market outcomes. Responsibilities: The Researcher will work on multiple projects with responsibilities that may include: . Developing conceptual frameworks that guide project work . Managing and analyzing large-scale administrative data files for research . Applying appropriate techniques to analyze quantitative data . Organizing and documenting analytical results and research procedures . Preparing technical reports and journal articles and present findings to clients and the public . Assisting in developing and drafting new research proposals . Mentoring junior research analysts, sharing their approaches to solving concrete problems, and providing feedback on the work of others . Serving as client contact for analytical or statistical expertise . Managing or leading projects or tasks
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in economics, a social science, or related field and expertise in econometrics or applied statistics. Highly proficient in STATA, SAS, or R, and open to learning new statistical tools in a relatively short period of time as required by different projects. Knowledge or experience with the analysis of large-scale data files and the design of education experiments and quasi-experiments. Able to apply advanced statistical methods (for example, fixed effects analyses, regression discontinuity or instrumental variables), and able to communicate effectively about these methods to non-technical audiences. Candidates who have drawn on longitudinally linked student achievement data to conduct "value-added" analyses of teacher and school effectiveness and who are knowledgeable about the strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches is desired.
