Battelle's Environmental Product Line specializes in a science-based approach to protect and manage environmental resources - particularly those related to coastal, marine, and freshwater environments. The Environmental Assessment and Monitoring (EAM) Section includes field and environmental services support work for a variety of programs, including environmental and engineering projects, watershed management, water resource modeling, marine and freshwater ecosystem monitoring, and natural resource assessment.
Our EAM Section is currently seeking a Researcher. This position located in Duxbury, MA.
The successful candidate will be a team player with experience in providing technical support, database management and GIS support. Work will include technical support for the project, information/data collection efforts, solicitation of input and recommendations from the Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning Advancement Training Project Team. The ideal candidate will be attentive to detail and especially tactful and responsive to both internal teams and external clients and committees. He/she will be expected to conduct data analyses and assessment including summarizing results, support curriculum preparation, produce GIS map and analyses preparation efforts for a variety of environmental projects in an ESRI environment, prepare technical/research reports and PowerPoint presentations, and participate in project team communications, including soliciting input and recommendations from team members. In addition to these duties, the successful candidate will serve as a member of the environmental field team and participate on land- and sea-based environmental monitoring and assessment assignments as necessary. In this capacity, he/she will be able to work in field environments including on vessels.
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
· Bachelor's degree in relevant field (e.g., marine biology, chemistry, policy, education). Minimum of five years experience, or a Masters Degree in relevant field and a minimum of three years experience.
· Professional experience in ocean and coastal management, marine spatial planning, or marine policy.
· Experience in geographic information systems (GIS), with proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS software.
· Ability to perform assigned technical work and produce quality results in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
· Must have strong organizational skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
· Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED, TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
· Database management skills (in SQL, Access, and Excel); preferably fluent in all versions of MS Access.
