Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to both the Director, Carleton University Research Office (CURO), and the Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Affairs) of the Faculty of Public Affairs (FPA), the Research Facilitator, FPA, is responsible for identifying, promoting and managing high value/impact research opportunities within the FPA at Carleton University. The incumbent is responsible for increasing the number and dollar value of successful funding opportunities year over year and for providing expert advice and guidance to faculty in the completion of research applications. To accomplish this, the incumbent works closely with all sectors of the CURO group to ensure he/she is fully briefed on key initiatives as they relate to funding opportunities. In addition, the Research Facilitator is expected to keep both the Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Affairs), and Director informed of important funding developments as they relate to research activities in the Faculty and to provide analysis and recommendations on potential opportunities for Carleton?s Public Affairs research community. Qualifications The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
Knowledge of project management principles Experience in fostering effective communication within and among groups Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously Detail oriented, resourceful, innovative, flexible, accessible Proven capacity to excel in an independent, highly confidential, ever-changing work environment Exceptional listening, verbal and written communication skills Very strong editorial and documentation skills especially in relation to technical documents Experience in using word processing, spreadsheet, database and Internet applications and tools Related knowledge in conducting and designing research programs, and in research methodologies. Exceptional knowledge of successful grant application procedures and granting agency requirements. Education and Experience The above is normally acquired by the completion of a Master?s degree in a research discipline ? preferably in Public Affairs, plus a minimum of 3 years experience in building collaborative research teams and multi-disciplinary and/or multi-institutional research proposals for provincial, national, and international agencies. Related experience in the development of research proposals, publications, grant applications and/or contracts, including project logistics and budget development.
