JOB TYPE: Part Time; Intermittent Casual Employee Responding to the National Crisis in Writing: An Efficacy Study of an Elementary Grades Writing Program,a research project in the Learning and Teaching Division, has an opening for a Research Assistant (I), reporting to the Principal Investigator in Newton, Massachusetts.
This federally-funded four-year project will study the efficacy of a writing curriculum with embedded professional development on the writing outcomes of fourth and fifth grade students in 49 Massachusetts schools that have been randomly assigned to treatment or control conditions. The Research Assistant will be responsible for data collection and data entry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.
Under management oversight, the Research Assistant (I) provides support to qualitative &/or quantitative investigation efforts, including:
. Documenting & cataloguing - Visits schools and district offices to assist with scanning and photocopying of student, teacher, and administrator data. . Maintaining records - Enters research data onto spreadsheets for analysis. May also be responsible for: Disseminating information · Drafting · Research & analysis · Preparing preliminary recommendations
The Research Assistant (I) . Leads assigned administrative tasks - Completes all necessary paperwork and forms in a timely manner . Facilitates project teamwork; seeks and utilizes feedback - Coordinates and communicates with EDC study team leaders, including the PI and Research Assistant II, as requested and required by the project . Is highly organized and attentive to detail . Assists with quality assurance . Provides logistical support . Is expected to travel to schools and districts in Massachusetts . Must have own transportation
QUALIFICATIONS- This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:
. Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education & experience . Master's degree or equivalent combination of training & education in a related field preferred . 2-4 years related research, education or administrative coordination, requiring experience with computer applications (including databases) and Internet research
