Our services include research, training, educational materials, and strategy, with activities ranging from seed projects to large-scale national and international initiatives. ________________EDC is Committed to Diversity in the Workplace________________ The Teacher Quality in Science project in the Language, Literacy and Early Learning Unit, based in Waltham, MA, has an opening for a Research Assistant (I) in Manhattan and/or Westchester County, NY. The Language, Literacy and Early Learning Unit at Education Development Center, Inc. is seeking bilingual (Spanish-English) child data collectors to participate in a federally-funded early science grant to support preschool teachers in Manhattan and Westchester County, NY. These persons should have strong experience working with young children and ability to administer child assessments. This position includes part-time opportunities in the spring of 2012 (late April – early June). There will also be 3 mandatory half-days of training in March 2012. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures. Responsibilities include: * Travel to preschool programs throughout either Manhattan or Westchester County. Data collectors must provide their own transportation. (Data collectors are not required to work in both locations.) * Attendance of 3 half-days of training to be held in March 2012. Trainings will include instruction on an early science assessment and other cognitive assessments. Trainings are mandatory and will be paid hourly. Trainings will occur in both Manhattan and Westchester County. * Ensuring that child assessment scoresheets are properly completed and returned to the team leader. QUALIFICATIONS- This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements: * Fluency in both Spanish and English to assess both Spanish- and English-speaking children * Availability 4-5 weekday mornings per week for 4-6 weeks (late April – early June) * Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience * 2–4 years related research, education or administrative coordination, requiring experience with computer * Experience working with young children * Interest / experience in educational research * Willingness to be trained on the administration of child assessments * Experience with assessment tools with children a plus * Access to reliable, independent transportation CONTACT:No phone calls, please Posted: 1/3/12 ____________________________________________________________________________________ EDC is an Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer (M/F/D/V) and a smoke-free workplace
