The New York City school system is the largest in the country, composed of approximately 1.1 million students and 90,000 teachers in over 1,600 schools. In September 2011, Chancellor Dennis Walcott launched a concentrated effort to focus on developing successful middle schools that effectively prepare students to succeed in high school and in post-secondary education opportunities. Position Summary:The Program Coordinator will work within the Middle School Quality Initiative (MSQI) Team to provide comprehensive support for the planning and ongoing implementation of the initiative. This includes budget, operations, professional development coordination, evaluation and data collection and analysis. Performs related work. Reports to:Senior Director for Middle School Quality, Office of Academic Quality Direct Reports:N/A Key Relationships:MSQI Team, Network Staff and Schools. Responsibilities Project Planning * Manage project planning and implementation, including professional development activities, school and network communications and budgeting. * Draft and monitor logistical project plans around all MSQ initiatives, including literacy work, teacher team work, instructional leadership work, and culture support. * Refine and execute an MSQI high school guidance strategy that is designed to support improved student engagement, personalization and family involvement through Community Based Organization (CBO) partnerships. * Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and support their implementation. * Capture and map Department-wide initiatives that have a specific focus on middle schools. * Coordinate the implementation and training of Balfanz Early Indicator work. Data Analysis and Reporting * Support the central team in carrying out data analysis tasks and projects. * Lead the development of internal and external reports. * Coordinate cross departmental efforts to capture and analyze city-wide middle school data, including achievement, School Quality Review (SQR) reports, Student Leadership (SLE) reports, enrollment, teacher quality and demographics. Budget and Operations Support * Manage and track $5.0M budget, including reporting on spending and exercising judgment to escalate issues, as necessary. * Maintain budgetary controls and authorize all expenditures for the Senior Director. * Liaise with Operations and Budget offices to support overall budget needs, as necessary. * Work closely with team leads to track and report budgets. * Manage purchasing activities, support and/or manage procurement activities, and support consultant and per session timesheet entry and tracking to budget. * Coordinate the development, registration, and execution of all contracts. Support team leads to monitor and evaluate services through completion of the contract. Qualification Requirements: Minimum * A master’s degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a closely related field, and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management, or in a related area. * A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the areas described in “1” above. Plus * Significant project management experience. * Significant experience in coordinating large group forums or meetings. * Significant experience in planning and program managing budgets. Preferred * Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship management. * Strong communication skills, both oral and written. * Attentive to detail, extremely well-organized, able to work under pressure and meet frequent and changing deadlines. * Responsive to feedback. * Ability to learn quickly and continuously. * Knowledge of DOE policy and procedures and the ability to interpret and apply policies effectively. * School and or community based organization experience. * Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
