Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: February 29, 2012 Departmental Overview Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Services Implementation, this new, 36 month contract position is part of a team responsible for the design and implementation of a related group of Student Services Initiatives that will serve the entire UC Berkeley campus. This team works collaboratively with the Student Services Design Team, central campus offices, respective functional owners (Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, academic units), and department managers to successfully launch the following initiatives: Academic Commons (CalCentral), Web Based Academic Planning and Registration Tools, Advising Toolkit, Communication and Information Hub, and Enhanced Financial Planning and Bill Paying. These initiatives will transform the student experience from a highly fragmented delivery model towards a more seamless and full-service online experience. Responsibilities 50% - Produces a variety of communication pieces in a variety of venues including written, visual, and electronic communications. Produces or ensures production of high quality products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints.
20% - Develop, manage and execute communications for comprehensive change management plans. Identifies audiences and develops change management strategies and vehicles for each. Identifies specific communications needs and develops the content and process for organizational improvements.
20% - Develop, manage and execute complex comprehensive communications programs, including written, visual, and electronic communications, for the Student Services OE Initiatives.
10% - Provides change oriented advice and counsel to the initiative team, Program Office, initiative leaders and others on all aspects of communications, including strategic planning, effective messaging, alignment of communications and change management, and problem resolution. Required Qualifications . Extensive internal communications experience in highly complex organizations. . External communications background highly desirable . Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications related to change management, including strategic planning for various media venues, measurement, audience analysis, and tactical implementation for a variety of audiences. . Knowledge of organizational change communications and knowledge and expertise of the most appropriate and effective communications strategies and tactics in a variety of settings. . Advanced skills in writing a wide variety of materials including organization-wide leadership communications, video scripts, manager's guides, FAQs, etc. . Ability to produce communication pieces under tight timelines while managing input from multiple key stakeholders, and ensure that web content is accurate, up-to-date, informative and responsive to input from various stakeholders/leaders. . Advanced skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information. . Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. . Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills. . Advanced skills in collaboration, partnership with experience in disciplined team work. . Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or related field and/or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications . Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure. . Knowledge of campus protocols and channels for communication internally and externally. .
