Nursery School Teacher - New Canaan YMCA
GENERAL FUNCTION Under the direction of the Child Development Director, the teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of the class. The teacher will work toward providing a program to foster childrens social, physical, emotional, and cognitive growth using a variety of techniques. KNOW-HOW A strong background in Early Childhood Development is required. A CDA, Associates or Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education is desired. The individual must have the ability to work well with children in cooperation with other staff and parents of participants. Being responsive and flexible to the needs of the program are imperative skills. Documentation of a physical examination and a negative TINE test, valid within one year of employment and acceptance of fingerprint cards and DCF release form upon employment are mandatory. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES Assist director/head teacher in providing a quality program that takes into consideration the needs of each child and the goals and objectives of the YMCA as well as local, state, and federal regulations. Responsible for the safety and well being of the children at all times. With co-teacher, develop and implement the monthly lesson plans, according to the developmental levels and interests of the children enrolled. Responsible for daily record keeping and adherence to all requirements. Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as required by the director. Direct and assist in the daily maintenance of the classroom environment. Attend and participate in parent conferences or parent/child events that are related to the program. Communicate pertinent information with the head teacher/director obtained through contact with parents and children. Continue professional development through community involvement, reading, and further education. Assist in all YMCA activities and special events, as needed, to ensure their success Effective communication with parents; being available and responding to needs in a timely, consistent, compassionate manner.
