Nurse Educator
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assesses needs for educational programs to meet learning needs of all LGMC employees. Researches issues and trends and identifies appropriate program content and needed training aids for quality improvement. Develops lesson plans, learning objectives and student materials accordingly. Conducts, coordinates and/or facilitates educational programs based on identified learning needs; according to objectives and lesson plans including: leadership, general management and staff development, within budgetary guidelines. Delivers training programs utilizing principles of adult education and group dynamics. Evaluates educational programs through formal informal mechanisms; shares results with management. Recommends new courses or improvements based on feedback received. Serves as liaison/consultant to internal departments regarding needed in-services and employee development. Participates in hospital wide projects and committees; makes professional presentations outside the standard curriculum as needed. Markets the services of the Education Department. Maintains accurate departmental records as related to educational programs. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures. Submits information for departmental PI indicators within established time frames. Seeks opportunities to improve professional skills and departmental operations. Assists director in the completion of miscellaneous duties. Supports LGMC initiatives with regard to accrediting and other regulatory agencies (JCAHO, OSHA, etc.). Presents self in a professional manner. Functions in an organized and time conscious manner. Plans, coordinates and/or presents education opportunities/programs geared to the needs of critical care caregivers. (Critical Care Courses, ACLS/PALS Courses, EKG Classes, etc.) Plans, coordinates and/or conducts orientation for newly hired LGMC staff. Assist with LGMC BLS classes and Community Training Center activities as related to LGMC. Coordinates programming to meet mandatory annual requirements for assigned staff. Chairs Patient Education Committee. Assist with overseeing the HealthStream System usage. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION Required Holds a RN license for the state of Virginia. Preferred BLS/ACLS/PALS Instructor status current with Instructor Trainer status in these areas encouraged. EXPERIENCE Required One year as experienced trainer/educator with emphasis on course design and management development programs. 5 years of recent clinical experience. Preferred Above plus experience in health care setting.
