Pomona Unified School District Music Teacher (Instrumental) - Various Elementary Schools - VN #43 Music Teacher (Instrumental) - Various Elementary Schools - VN #43 RESPONSIBLE TO: Instructional Services SCHEDULED TO BEGIN: 2010-11 School Year POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Recruit and organize students into an instrumental music program at each assigned school in cooperation with parents, classroom teachers and site administrators. 2. Instruct students in the basic aspects required to play their instrument. 3. Instruct students in the basic elements of music reading required to play their instrument. 4. Assist, as required, with school and district music functions. 5. Interact with appropriate personnel to promote a District comprehensive integrated, multicultural Instrumental Music program. 6. Maintain accurate student records and statistical data. 7. Assume any related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum: 1. Appropriate California Teaching Credential (Preliminary/Clear) or letter from a college or a university verifying Preliminary acceptance in a CTC approved Teacher Internship Program. 2. Must possess EL Authorization, LDS/CLAD certification (Crosscultural Language Academic Development, SB1969, SB395, or AB2913. 3. Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge and technical ability on music instruments commonly utilized in school bands and orchestras. 4. Ability to demonstrate basic keyboard ability. 5. Ability to work effectively in a multiethnic setting. 6. Ability to work effectively in a variety of environments and circumstances. 7. Ability to work effectively with a variety of age levels and proficiency levels. 8. Provide own transportation and possess a valid California Driver's License. Desirable: 1. Music Education major with teaching experience at the elementary level. 2. Knowledge of current trends and research concerning Elementary Music Education. 3. Keyboard proficiency. 4. Performance level proficiency on one or more instruments. 5. Knowledge and ability to arrange and transpose music, as needed, to improve instruction and student success. 6. Knowledge and ability to do minor instrument repairs. 7. Knowledge of Spanish, Cantonese or Vietnamese, may be an asset. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS: Work Year and Salary: 10-month position (188 days) Appropriate placement on the Regular Teachers Salary schedule (annual salary $41,351 - $79,712), plus a factor of .055 of the Teachers Salary Schedule for special assignment with appropriate bilingual credential.
