Position Summary Birney Preparatory Academy is a Renaissance school of choice open to all students residing in the Philadelphia Public School district. The school will incorporate a core curriculum with the Paragon Curriculum and a magnet-like Arts and Technology focus that links core learning with multiple learning styles. Paragon engages students with hands-on exploration and reinforces core morning classes by addressing varying student learning styles. Birney Preparatory Academy will work together with parents, involving them in the education of their children and forming a partnership aimed at increasing each child's academic achievement. We are looking for energetic, engaging and talented teachers who have strong classroom & behavior management skills. As a Charter school teacher you are responsible to provide students with a first class learning experience that maximizes their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development, including the development of their ability to apply their intellect to solving problems and contribute to their communities as enlightened and responsible citizens. Teacher Required Education/Qualifications/Skills * BachelorDegree in Education or related discipline(i.e. Social Science, English/Language Arts, Humanities, Math, Science). * MUST have a minimum 2-3 years in a self contained classroom; 4+ years preferred. * MUST be Pennsylvania certified and deemed Highly Qualified by the Department of Education. * MUST demonstrate competency in all areas of content responsibility and be computer literate. * MUST have experience working with youth in an urban/inner city. * Preference will be given to those with a proven track record of academic improvement supported by recent data.
