ADELANTE HIGH SCHOOL IS SEEKING A PERSON TO TEACH MATH IN A CONTINUATION HIGH SCHOOL WITH AT-RISK YOUTH, GRADES 10 - 12. CREDENTIAL TO ALSO TEACH SCIENCE eville Joint Union High School District Teacher, Continuation/Alternative School POSITION: CLASSROOM TEACHER - CONTINUATION/ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL (Adelante/Independence/Success) DEFINITION: Under the immediate supervision of the site administrator, the teacher provides an educational program in one or more subject matter areas to pupils in grades 9 through 12, develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the District; assists in other programs as assigned. A. Instructional duties and responsibilities: 1. Meets and instructs those classes and pupils assigned in the location and at the time designated. 2. Endeavors to utilize an individual program of instruction for each student according to his ability. 3. Translates educational objectives into learning experiences in order to best utilize the available time for instruction. 4. Subject to the availability of resources applies a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media applicable to individuals or groups of pupils of varying capabilities. 5. Implements by instruction and action the District's Goals of Education and District, school and class goals and objectives. 6. Prepares instructional objectives based on the classes assigned and formulates strategies for meeting the objectives. 7. Provides for continuous evaluation of pupil progress consistent with teacher, school, and District-established instructional objectives, goals and policies. 8. Participates with other members of the staff in planning instructional objectives and goals for pupils. 9. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials within the school or department. 10. Communicates with school counselor regarding the individual pupil's progress. 11. Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. 12. Provides plans for substitute teachers that are meaningful and which provide the students with learning activities. B. Control and Environment 1. Assists pupils in setting and maintaining standards and following acceptable rules of behavior. 2. Takes necessary precaution to protect pupils, equipment, materials and school plant. 3. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules and Board policies. 4. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others. C. Adjunct Responsibilities 1. Utilizes conference period for planning, evaluation of pupils, conferences, or department or grade level study and planning. 2. Accepts fair share of responsibility for supervision activities as assigned by the site administrator. 3. Maintains records as may be required. 4. Participates in scheduled meetings. 5. If aides, teacher assistants, and other para-professionals or volunteers are assigned, the teacher will coordinate their activities. 6. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District or school and/or self-selected professional growth activities. 7. Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees. D. Minimum Employment Qualifications 1. Credential: Requires any valid credential issued by the State of California to perform the services if a teacher in grades 9 through 12. 2. Education: Degree requirements will be those required by the State of California. 3. Experience: At least the minimum required by the State of California for the issuance of a credential. The performance of either student teachers or experience teachers shall be acceptable based on the evaluations of immediate supervisors who have observed the classroom performance, personal characteristics and scholastic attainment of the teacher. E. Personal Characteristics The teachers of Adelante High School hope to strive for the following personal characteristics in their relationships with the students: 1. Ability to get along with divergent youth congenially and enthusiastically, exercise discretion and establish rapport. 2. High threshold of anxiety and ability to handle behavioral problems without emotional upsets or extremes. 3. Ability to relate to and understand the individual's immediate and innate abilities, interests and needs. 4. Flexibility in the total school program as well as in dealings with the students both in the cognitive and affective areas. 5. Encouraging attitude: the desire to help students who are in need of encouragement and to give positive reinforcement. 6. Firmness in expectations and standards, yet fairness in all dealings. DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medical Category I 1. Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, or walking. 2. Work assignments are normally located in a work environment with light physical work and requires light physical effort. 3. Lifting 25 lbs. maximum or carrying any object weighing over 15 lbs
