Position Information Working Title Manager of Information Services: Circulation Requisition Number 10105 Department Library Additional Department Not Assigned Pay Band C2 FLSA Status Exempt Job Category Professional Job Type Full-time Months Per Year 12 Hours Per Week Exempt Full-time Purpose Management of the operations of Circulation in coordination with the Information Services Coordinator and the staff of the library to deliver excellent customer service to users including locating library information, resources, materials, and services. Assists in the design of the new information service program of the library and helps redesign circulation procedures and functions to integrate with the new library information services. Assists in the redesign of staff responsibilities, including the integration of student staff, to create a seamless user experience in the library. This Exempt position is expected to work a day shift schedule, Tuesday through Saturday. Essential Job Functions Reporting to the Director of Instructional & Public Services, with additional responsibility to the Coordinator of Information Services, this position will: * Support the library in its mission and vision in providing excellent customer service. * Keep current on trends relating to the provision of library resources and services and collaborate with colleagues to implement innovative service in the provision of the library ´s resources and use of its facilities. * Responsible to the Coordinator for Information Services for : - Service desk proficiencies and procedures - Cross-training staff, including student staff - Monitoring and assessing customer service at service desks * Hire, manage, schedule, and supervise 5 FTE support staff (2 library technicians, 3 senior library technicians). * Coach staff and provide opportunities for skill development. Works with individual staff members to create goals and develop an effective staff team. Leads the team to set effective unit goals and objectives. * Oversee circulation processes and direct staff members who will assume responsibility for: - Managing circulation records in the integrated library system (Innovative Interfaces) - Managing records and communications related to overdues and billing - Maintaining stacks, and shelving, including Holds management. - Maintaining security of collection & selected equipment, e.g., cameras, laptops. - Maintaining Reserves services. - Collecting statistics. * Resolve problems at the circulation desk and assist staff in the interpretation of library policy, including: - Responding to patrons with difficult problems - Negotiating overdue accounts - Answering billing and collections questions - Using sound judgment to make exceptions to policies - Initiating effective interventions that result in user satisfaction - Implement the new self-check system and manage patron usage and equipment * Makes regular fine deposits and is responsible for maintaining fine collection and deposit records per instructions from the Controller's Office. * Recommend changes in workflow, procedures and policies. * Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with Resource Sharing, Research Services, Collection Development and Library Technology staff and other library staff to ensure excellent customer service. * Collaborate with the Collection Development Coordinator to: - Identify issues with stacks maintenance - Participate in the development and implementation of a disaster plan - Identify damaged library materials - Manage procedures for replacement of missing materials - Collect appropriate statistical information * Collaborate with the Coordinator of Information Services to schedule and manage student employees and cross-train staff. * Participate in the deliberations of Library Management Committee, the new public services management group and other library committees and groups as assigned. * Represent the library in various aspects of university service or governance, either voluntarily or as assigned. * Participates in professional development activities and maintains contact with local, state and national organizations. * In order to serve a year-round academic community, the library will be open some legal or university holidays and this position may be required to work a full or partial shift on such days. Marginal Job Functions * Participates in communication and marketing activities by helping plan and carry out programs and events. * Collaborates with Coordinator of Information Services to plan events and activities to develop a sense of community spirit for student employees. * Carry out other duties as assigned that contribute to the achievement of the library's strategic plan, the completion of special projects, or the regular delivery of library services. * Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Instructional and Public Services Minimum Qualifications * Bachelors degree or technical training in relevant area of expertise in addition to two years of previous experience working in a similar program or field. * One year of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job described above. * Experience working in a library circulation unit. * Experience using an integrated library system. * Familiar with current trends in circulation service. * Previous work experience with extensive public contact serving a diverse clientele. * Excellent service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish positive rapport with colleagues, students, faculty, and university staff. * Ability to work well independently and collaboratively. * Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adhere to timelines. * Committed to follow-through and excellent service. * Ability to solve problems, be comfortable in complex work environments and maintain composure in stressful situations. * Ability to recognize opportunities and design processes to increase effectiveness and enhance service delivery. * All candidates must show a demonstrated commitment to diversity and the university's mission, vision, and values. * This position requires a criminal history background check. Preferred Qualifications * Experience working in public services in an academic library. * Experience with Innovative Interfaces Millennium integrated library system * Successful supervisory or coaching experience in a team environment Compensation Salary will be discussed during the interview process and is commensurate with qualifications.
