Instructional Assistant – Full-Time Emotional Support
Instructional Assistant – Full-Time Emotional Support (MAPS) Mastery Charter Schools is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the MAPS team to provide world-class educational programming for students with emotional disabilities. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with the classroom teachers and program administrators to implement consistent support and integrate school-wide behavior systems to ensure academic achievement. The MAPS Instructional Assistant must be patient and compassionate with difficult students but unwavering in holding students to a high bar for both behavior and academic performance.
Key Responsibilities and Qualifications: * Bachelor’s Degree, related field preferred * Experience working with adolescents, school-setting experience preferred * Strong experience with disabled and/or disruptive youth * Ability to assist classroom teacher to teach and control the behavior of special education students * Ability to provide small group instruction/interventions * Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant current special education methodologies and techniques * Ability to maintain sensitive, confidential information * Must be able to work collaboratively in a non-traditional, inner-city environment * Outstanding instructional skills, including the ability to motivate and challenge students and maintain an orderly classroom environment * A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement * A belief that all students should be held to high academic standards * Demonstrated professionalism and responsibility, and a strong work ethic * A positive, high-energy attitude and a drive for personal excellence * The ability to problem-solve and a sense of humor are required

About MAPS Program Mastery Alternative Pupil Support (MAPS) is a special education program thatprovides comprehensive emotional support programming for 7th-12thgrade Mastery students in a therapeutic environment to proactively ensure development of pro-social skills without sacrificing academic achievement. MAPS is led by a program administrator and includes a comprehensive Positive Behavior Support Program, small-class sizes (max 10-12 students per class), a full-time counselor providing individual and group counseling, a Dean of Culture, as well as additional staff supports, such as teaching assistants. The design of this program is to increase basic academic, social and behavioral skills necessary to function in a mainstream setting and in the community. The goal is to return each student to their sending campus upon successful completion of individual and program goals.
