Description: Group 47- The Chemical and Biological Defense Systems Group works on the design, development, and demonstration of bioagent and other hazardous material sensing and protection systems that detect and warn of the presence of organisms of concern in air, water, or environmental samples.
Candidate will lead projects that integrate and field chemical, biological and explosives sensors in various operational settings. The projects include elements of system analysis, test planning, site preparation, installation, operations, maintenance, C2 and database systems, data analysis and summary reports. Candidate will need to lead in all aspects of these project elements. Candidate will troubleshoot issues that arise from individual sensor problems to networks and communications and C2 database systems. Determination of system performance in an operational setting may require positive challenges to the system while also measuring false positives to determine a Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve. Therefore candidate will need to determine statistical significance of various test strategies. Candidate will manage a diverse team of scientists and engineers to execute the field trials. Will require frequent sponsor and field site stakeholder interactions. Candidate will have to think broadly of the whole field campaign while dealing with many minor technical details in parallel.

Requirements:
The candidate must possess a Ph.D. in engineering, math, computer science or physics. In lieu of a PhD, an M.S. with 5+ years of directly related experience will be considered. Must have demonstrated experience in leading small teams in field oriented projects. Must have ability to plan, prepare, execute and document field trials. Candidate must be detailed oriented to keep track of many field trials components. Must have demonstrated capability to brief sponsors and document work through project reports.
