Graduate Administrator (Term until March 2013) - Pay Band 12
Title: Graduate Administrator (Term until March 2013) - Pay Band 12 Location: St. George (downtown Toronto) Other Locations: Under general direction of the Associate Chair, Graduate, the Graduate Assistant performs complex administrative and analytical functions related to Graduate Studies in History. Duties include supervising the day to day operation of the Graduate Office; counseling students on a wide range of issues and queries including departmental and university policies; overseeing the submission of documentation and recommending action to the Associate Chair, Graduate; managing U of T Fellowship budget; compiling curriculum material for SGS Calendar; compiling material for and maintaining departmental website; assigning and supervising clerical projects; overseeing external funding competitions; and coordinating TA hiring. Supervises the Graduate Assistant by assigning and directing work and providing assistance. (MINIMUMS)
Education: University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Three years of related experience in administrative positions including working directly with students and experience applying and interpreting related academic policies and procedures. Experience preparing and analyzing statistical reports.
Skills: Strong ROSI or related systems skills, excellent computer skills in MS Office and in preparing and analyzing Excel spreadsheets. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills; understanding of confidentiality and tact required; sensitivity to student needs and issues. Demonstrated ability to interpret policy; to analyze and solve problems and provide sound advice independently; strong initiative, good judgment and sound decision-making and resourcefulness. Demonstrated attention to detail; dependability; accuracy; ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines; organizational skills coupled with demonstrated priority setting skills; excellent time management; ability to multi-task in a busy office environment with on-going interruptions; be able to work effectively and efficiently independently and as part of a team.
