Special Education 1:1 Assistant
The Special Education 1:1 Assistant shows an unwavering commitment to students with disabilities and a commitment to improve the knowledge, skills, and lives of students with disabilities. The instructional assistant works with an individual student to support that student’s academic and behavioral success in the classroom as measured by mastery of IEP goals, student grades, data collected from observations in the classroom, and teacher judgment. The 1:1 assistant reports to the Special Education classroom teacher. Key Responsibilities: • Working with an individual student to support academic progress and progress on IEP goals. • Operating and caring for equipment or instructional materials used in the classroom for instructional purposes. • Supporting student for inclusion in general education classes. • Helping student master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher. • Guiding independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as assigned by the teacher. • Assisting with the supervision of the student during meals, emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, or field trips. • Assisting with supervision of daily routine and schedule. • Participating in appropriate staff development as required to ensure professional growth. • Participating in classroom team meetings and/or staff meetings as required by job assignment. • Performing other duties as assigned. Qualifications: • Results-oriented individual – a flexible thinker willing to do “whatever it takes.” • Belief in the Mastery Charter School mission and instructional model. • A ferocious desire to provide our students with a world class education. • A willingness and commitment to working with one student for the majority of the school day. • High School Diploma or higher • Familiar with instructional strategies for students with cognitive delays. • Familiar with the social emotional needs of students with cognitive disabilities.
