Description: Group 66 - The Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group models, designs, builds, tests, and operates prototype space and airborne lasercom terminals. A major group effort is the development of low size, weight, and power (SWaP) airborne lasercom terminals which perform reliably over fading links. Key supporting efforts include the development of high data-rate modems with high efficiency modulation formats and sensitive detection schemes, and implementation of novel forward error correction codes to enable communication performance near theoretical capacity limits. Other capabilities include operation of a high fidelity terminal testbed and an emulation testbed to investigate tracking in a fading environment. The group maintains close interactions with both government and industrial partners.
The Flight Software Engineer will work as a critical member of a team developing a spacecraft communications payload. Desired skills include a strong understanding of how to develop high-quality re-useable code and microprocessor-based computer architectures. Responsibilities will include contributing to the architecture, design and implementation of a distributed payload controller and command/telemetry software packages.
Qualifications: MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science. In lieu of an MS a BS with 5 or more years of directly-related experience will be considered. Candidate must be able to architect software that interfaces with a hardware system based on high-level specifications. Candidate should be fluent in C, C++, and Matlab. Experience in design and simulation of complex embedded software systems and commercial/proprietary RTOS is desired. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with other team members is required.
