Flight Management System Specialist 3\4
Flight Deck Crew Operations requires Specialists with a broad understanding of airplane systems, operations and how the flight crew executes their role. This is especially true for Flight Management System (FMS) Specialists working on the KC-46A Tanker, who must integrate aerial refueling procedures to successfully accomplish the military mission. A firm understanding of both airline and military operations is essential to supporting the end users of the airplane.
Utilizing a broad understanding and knowledge of transport aircraft operations, aircraft systems, flight management systems and aircrew operations to perform systems engineering tasks for the KC-46 flight deck, the FMS Specialist will apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. They will evaluate customer/operational needs to define and coordinate systems performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional, program and human/machine interfaces.
The FMS Specialist will:
1. Define specifications
2. Participate in negotiations between engineering teams and with the customer

4. Develop detailed test plans
5. Actively participate laboratory and simulator sessions
6. Act as advocate for the positions held by Flight Deck
7. Represent the interests of the Chief Pilot in technical and procedural matters.
The FMS Specialist will evaluate system design and operation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. In this role familiarity with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulatory documentation will be required.
As a subject matter expert, the FMS Specialist should have and maintain knowledge of current industry developments in Flight Management, datalink, Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC), display technology, Area Navigation Required Navigation Performer (RNAV RNP), and Global Positioning System Landing System (GLS).
The FMS Specialist will apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Evaluates customer and /operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Resolves cross-functional technical issues.

Knowledge of how the customer flight crews operate aircraft during day to day operations, including typical airline/military flight operations and all normal and non-normal operating procedures and checklists. Complete knowledge of the Air Traffic Control environment and how aircraft are routed through the air traffic environment.

Typical Education/Experience
Level 3 - Technical bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' or a PhD degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A technical degree is defined as any four year degree, or greater, in a mathematic, scientific or information technology field of study. Level 4 - Technical bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
