Description: Group 66 - The Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group models, designs, builds, tests, and operates prototype space and airborne lasercom terminals. A major group effort is the development of low size, weight, and power (SWaP) airborne lasercom terminals which perform reliably over fading links. Key supporting efforts include the development of high data-rate modems with high efficiency modulation formats and sensitive detection schemes, and implementation of novel forward error correction codes to enable communication performance near theoretical capacity limits. Other capabilities include operation of a high fidelity terminal testbed and an emulation testbed to investigate tracking in a fading environment. The group maintains close interactions with both government and industrial partners.
The Flight Electronics Engineer will work as a critical member of a team developing a spacecraft communications payload. Desired skills include a strong understanding of electronic circuit design and microprocessor-based computer architectures. Experience with space flight hardware design is desirable. Responsibilities will include leading the architecture development, design and hardware implementation of a distributed controller processor system and a DC power conversion unit which will be integrated into a space payload.
Qualifications: MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering and 5 years of experience. In lieu of an MS a BS and 10 years of directly related experience will be considered. Candidate must be able to architect electronic communication hardware based on high-level specifications. Experience in design and simulation of complex analog/digital circuits that incorporate microprocessor controllers and DC power conversion modules is required. Experience working with an industrial vendor to architect and specify electronic signal processing and control hardware is desired. Experience in developing interface hardware to a spacecraft bus will influence selection of qualified candidate. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with other team members is required.
