GENERAL SUMMARY:

The National Hispanic University offers bachelor degrees and certificates to professionals whose work impacts others. Degree programs include liberal studies, child development, computer information system, business administration, and math and science. The University also offers a Masters in Education and various teacher certification programs. Finally, the University offers several professional certificate programs, including Translation and Interpretation. Our programs are designed to challenge students to make a difference in the lives of children, the health of communities, or the success of an organization.

The Full-Time Math Faculty position in the Math and Science department reports to the Chair of Math and Science and works closely with the relevant University academic advisors, administrative staff, and faculty to address a variety of academic and student issues. This position is expected to have a full, direct instructional load.

Faculty members educate the National Hispanic University's students by effectively and proficiently using best practices, with both face-to-face and online technology and resources. Knowledge, information, feedback, and critique are imparted to and shared with students through timely, thoughtful, carefully formulated, and well-written communication. Instruction is accomplished in an environment that is respectful of students, the Faculty Member, the University, and the Faculty Member's discipline. Faculty Members are expected to adhere to all University expectations, which are clearly set forth to the Faculty Member at the start of his/her employment with the University.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training
All new Faculty Members receive specific training from National Hispanic University in teaching techniques; the use of an electronic learning platform; the University's policies, procedures, and degree programs; the University culture, mission, and vision; and assessment of academic integrity of student work (including use of www.turnitin.com).

Course Teaching
Faculty Members are assigned a course, which is taught face-to-face or using the eCollege platform, and are responsible for interacting with students within either modality. For online courses, Discussion Boards for classrooms are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Although postings to the classroom may be done at any time of day, they must be completed in a timely manner in accordance with the Faculty Handbook or other criteria established by the National Hispanic University. As such, Faculty Members are expected to be in the classroom a minimum of 4 days per week and responses to student questions must be posted within 48 hours. Faculty Members are required to verify the accuracy of student postings and submissions and to provide feedback and grades to students through eCollege. For face-to-face courses, Faculty Members are required to offer one office hour per week per course taught.

Availability
National Hispanic University expects faculty to be reasonably accessible to students. Faculty members are expected to be available to students outside the classroom or discussion board and in addition to providing substantive feedback on assignments and postings. Faculty members will publish their availability to students through course syllabi, instructor information in the classroom, and/or other appropriate documents. The University suggests regular and predictable availability through office hours.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Faculty Member may perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

* Earned master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field, doctorate preferred.

* Possess a significant record of intellectual and professional contributions to the field of mathematics or mathematics education.

* Taught for three to five years previously at the degree level of the program (preferred).

* Shows commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of minority students.

* Shows commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring.

* Shows commitment to the promotion of applied research and the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty.

* Displays excellent leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills.

* Possesses experience with distance learning (preferred)

* Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

* Some travel required (minimally once per quarter)
