POSITION PURPOSE

Under general direction, the Enterprise Technical Architect is responsible for aligning technology with the department’s vision and direction. This position will ensure that development activities are following the development standards and policies for the department. The Enterprise Technical Architect has overall responsibility for driving the major technical decisions, expressed as the software architecture. This will include providing rationale for recommendations, decisions and balancing the concerns of multiple stakeholders, minimizing risk and ensuring that decisions and recommendations are effectively communicated.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position responsible for multiple platforms and engaged in the development, enhancement and support of core business applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
· Abstracts the complexity of a system into manageable models that describes the essence of a system by exposing important details and significant constraints.
· Creates and communicates tailored views of the software architecture to appropriate stakeholders at appropriate intervals.
· Provides leadership on critical decisions that designate a specific direction for a system in terms of implementation, operations, and maintenance. These decisions usually result in tradeoffs that define key characteristics of the solution, which must be well documented and easily understood by all decision makers.
· Proactively leads the implementation during all iterations and monitors the adherence of the implementation to the chosen architecture.
· Collaborates with the Project Manager and other key disciplines to prioritize use cases and organize work to drive down risk and encourage strong project control structures.
· Seeks innovative ways to improve the process of delivering solutions to customers
· Responsible for the overall architecture, design and technical oversight of complex business initiatives.
· Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and suggest alternative technical solutions tomeet client requirements more efficiently, and/or with greater reusability, and/or longer life.
· Mentors and coach’s development staff. Provides direction and leadership on a daily basis to ensure development resources are delivering sound solutions.
· Shares suggestions and knowledge capital to help optimize the team and the development process.
· Assist with the coordination and prioritization of technical deliverables and support items.
· Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, client service and technical writing skills, coupled with a strong interest in further developing and integrating enterprise business processes with technology skills.
· Displays excellent analytical skills.
· Follows through on all assignments and takes ownership of customer issues.
· Provides feedback to manager regarding developer performance.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

Education: Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or related field required

Experience: Seven to Ten years of progressively more responsible information systems experience within a complex, multi-platform environment. Platforms include, but not limited to; .NET, PHP, Java, SharePoint and mobile-device deployment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

The ideal candidate will have:
· Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, client service and technical writing skills, coupled with a strong interest in further developing and integrating enterprise business processes with technology skills.
· Displays excellent analytical skills.
· Experience in both the problem domain, through a thorough understanding of the requirements, and the software engineering domain.
· Leadership in order to drive the technical effort across the various teams, and to make critical decisions under pressure and make those decisions stick.
· Must work effectively with a project manager, leading the technical issues and the project manager leading the administrative issues.

· Goal-orientation and pro-activity with a relentless focus on results.
· In-depth knowledge of work processes and tools within own area.
· A strong background in software development and comprehensive knowledge of software development lifecycles and methodologies.
· Strong experience in all technical aspects of product implementation, including technical design and development, interface design and development, and report design and configuration.
· Must possess knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and techniques for developing and implementing software projects and programs.
· Strong knowledge of UMO or similar modeling language.
· Champions change and effectively manages the implementation of new ideas.
