Job Description: The ESL/Literacy Program at the Chinese Information Service Center seeks friendly, patient, and dependable teacher to help Vietnamese immigrants gain US citizenship. This is a great way to gain teaching experience with adult ESL immigrants and gain greater exposure to the Vietnamese language and culture. The Program Assistant/Citizenship instructor will provide instruction to a class of 15-20 limited English adults seeking to improve their English skills in order to obtain U.S. Citizenship help in the development and implementation of curriculum for the U.S. Citizenship courses assist in English assessment and class placement during new students registration recruit new students in the Vietnamese community and outreach at community based events receive training pertaining to teaching English as a Second Language and/or teaching citizenship Job Duties: Conduct classes for 3-6 hours per week (Sunday) Evaluate students progress and English literacy skills at the end of the quarter Maintain accurate record keeping Translate ESL Program materials in English and Vietnamese Assist ESL Program Coordinator with English assessment and class placement for new students Outreach and promote CISCs ESL Program and services to community members Perform administrative tasks if needed Qualifications: Experience teaching ESL, but will train if the applicant shows high motivation Bilingual in English and Vietnamese Good verbal and written communication skills Some knowledge of U.S. history and current affairs Possess cultural sensitivity Able to work well with refugees/immigrants, seniors, and beginning-English speakers Creative, versatile, motivated Salary: $15 per hour, 10-15 hours per week, No Benefit.
